digitalisation

adaptation of a system, process, etc. to be operated with the use of computers and the internet. For example, a business might start taking orders via an ecommerce website instead of over the phone. Many processes can be automated, collaborative working can speed up work and real-time communication over distances, can also make you more productive.

This is not to be confused with digitisation which is taking a document from the real world and converting it to a computer file. For example, using a scanner or a digital camera to record a photo onto a computer. OCR software can read the words on documents and store them as text arranged to look like the paper version.
